The Vice Chancellor
Professor Charles Arizechukwu Igwe is the Vice Chancellor of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. Prior to that, he was a Professor/Consultant in the Department of Soil Sciences of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences of this University. Subsequently, he was appointed the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration) from 2016 to 2018. Professor Igwe holds a Ph.D., M.Sc. and B Agric degrees in Soil Science from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. He also obtained Postgraduate Diploma in Soil Science from Agricultural University, Norway, As.
Professor Igwe’s research focuses on the contributions of organic and mineral colloids instability of tropical soils. He contributed significantly in the knowledge of the stability of unstable tropical soils that undergo catastrophic soil erosion with intensive tropical rainfall. In the face of Global Climate Change, he expanded the scope of his research to include the “Carbon sequestration in tropical soils”. In his search to unravel inherent soil factors influencing erodibility (K) factor of erosion models, he published some pioneering works on soil colloidal-dispersion.
Professor Igwe is author/co-author of many peer-reviewed articles in reputable Journals of Soil/Environmental Sciences. He is a Fellow Academy of Sciences, a NORAD Fellow; Fellow of Alexander von Humboldt (AvH) Germany; Regular Associate, International Centre for Theoretical Physics, Trieste, Italy; and Fellow, Japanese Society for Promotion of Science. In addition, he is listed in Marquis Who’s Who in Science and Engineering; and participant in German DAAD/DIES Deans Course 2009.
Chikelue Ofuebe, Ph.D (Political Science)
PROFESSOR and DIRECTOR
Chikelue Ofuebe has B.Sc (Ife), M.Sc, and Ph.D (Nigeria) Political Science. He is a Professor in the University of Nigeria. At present, he is the Director, Directorate of International Collaboration, and Programme Director, UNICEF-Supported Projects of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. Equally, he is the Coordinator, Implementation of the UNICEF/ILO Social Protection Floor (SPF) Costing Tool in Enugu and Cross River States. Indeed, he has worked for UNICEF as Resource Person or Consultant for more than 20 years, spanning the areas of Social Policy, Gender and Youth Development, Planning, and Programme, Monitoring and Evaluation. In addition, he was a Consultant on Health System Development Project – 11 for Government of Enugu State; a Consultant on “Effective Communication’’, “Interpersonal Relations and Team Management’’, and “Managing People” in the Shell Special Intensive Training Programme of The Shell Petroleum Development Company; a Consultant on “Transparency in Service Delivery in Africa” (TISDA) for Transparency International (TI); and a Lead Consultant on UNDP’s “Needs Assessment of Women’s Participation in Governance and Gender Mainstreaming in Local Government Areas (LGAs) in Nigeria”. Specifically, he was the Consultant on “Situation Analysis of Children in Cross River, State, Nigeria”, for UNICEF, Nigeria, 2021, and coordinated the UNICEF efforts at adopting the UNICEF/ILO Social Protection Floor (SPF) Costing Tool in Enugu and Cross River States, Nigeria. Furthermore, he directed and edited the outcome of the UNICEF/UNN Regional Conference on “Addressing Child Poverty: Child-Friendly and Equity – Focused Development Programmes and Policies in Nigeria” held at University of Nigeria, Nsukka. It’s worthy of note that the key aspects of the Global Long-Term Arrangement for Services (LTAS) for the provision of high quality Technical Expertise to UNICEF in the area of Social Protection and Child Poverty were interrogated and analyzed in that Conference. Finally, Ofuebe acknowledges the massive support of UNICEF, which enabled him convince this University to establish postgraduate programmes in Social Policy where the issues of Child Poverty and Social Protection are researched on profoundly.
Professor Ofuebe has authored five books, edited five volumes, contributed in numerous book chapters and written a multiplicity of journal articles in the areas of development, Social Policy, Politics, rural and peasant studies.
